How it works
One grocery shop, a whole week of meals.
Follow one shop through the week: the receipt, the plan, the list, the stove, the leftovers and your food log.
Follow one example week
Check the items, then add them to your pantry with what you paid and a use-by date you can change.

STEP 01
Scan the receipt
Check the items, then add them to your pantry with what you paid and a use-by date you can change.

STEP 02
Plan the week
Monday, cook four servings. Two of them are Wednesday’s lunch.

STEP 03
Shop what’s missing
Eleven ingredients needed. Six already in your pantry. Only five to buy.

STEP 04
Cook, and the pantry updates
Finish cooking and what you used comes out of your pantry. Undo puts it back.

STEP 05
Leftovers carry forward
Wednesday’s lunch is Monday’s leftovers. Nothing bought twice, nothing taken out twice.

STEP 06
Log what you eat
The meal you cooked is waiting in your food log. Tap Add when you eat it.

Cooking updates your pantry
Cook dinner. Your pantry keeps count.
When you finish cooking, or tick off a planned meal as cooked, Bhansa takes what you used out of your pantry, scaled to how many servings you made. Just planning a meal doesn’t touch your pantry.
- Cooked a double batch? It takes out double.
- Tapped twice by accident? It still only counts once.
- Every cook leaves a receipt, and Undo puts the exact amounts back.
Example cooking receipt
Chicken and spinach curry
Cooked 4 servings
| Ingredient | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Chicken thighs | 1 kg | 400 g |
| Baby spinach | 280 g | 80 g |
| Basmati rice | 2 kg | 1.7 kg |
| Greek yogurt | 1 kg | 850 g |
If Bhansa can’t be sure of an amount, it asks you to check instead of guessing.
Changed your mind? Tap Undo in Recent Deductions and the amounts go back.
Monday · cook day
Chicken and spinach curry
Cook 4 servings. Eat two tonight, save two.
Wednesday · lunch
Leftovers from Monday
2 servings already planned. Nothing extra to buy, nothing taken out twice.
Example plan. If you make extra without planning it, you can save that to your pantry as leftovers too.
Cook once, eat twice
Some days, dinner is already done.
Plan a big cook on Monday and Bhansa can set servings aside for later in the week. Those leftovers meals don’t add anything to your shopping list or take anything else out of your pantry.
Made more than you planned? Save the extra to your pantry as leftovers, with an expiry date you can change, and use it later.
How planned leftovers work →Have raw ingredients to use up? Start with what’s expiring.
Plan, cook, then log
Your meal is ready. So is your food log.
Meals you cook from your plan are waiting in your food log. Tap Add when you eat. Food logging is part of the free plan.
Example food log
Cooked from your plan
Chicken and spinach curry
1 serving · 540 kcal · 46 g protein · Estimated
Cooking isn’t eating, so nothing goes in your log until you add it. You choose when, and how much you had.
Plans that fit your targets
With Premium, Bhansa checks the plans it makes against your calorie and macro targets. It tells you when a day hits them, and when it’s the closest it could get.
Where the numbers come from
Recipe nutrition comes from USDA ingredient data where it’s available, scaled to your portion. Meals you log from a photo or a description are AI estimates, and you can edit them. Barcode and label scans use what’s printed on the pack.
Every number has a small badge that tells you where it came from.

Just tell Mira what you need
Mira lives on the Home screen. Type or talk to her to plan meals, log what you ate, or update your pantry and shopping list. With Premium, you can ask her questions while you cook, too.
| You say | What Mira does |
|---|---|
| “Add eggs and milk to my list” | Does it straight away. You can undo most changes. |
| “Plan my dinners this week” | Goes by your preferences, and asks if there’s something she can’t work out. |
| “I had a chicken wrap for lunch” | Shows you a nutrition estimate to check before anything is saved. |
| “Change my cooking routine” | Opens your routine settings so you can make the change yourself. |

And a few more things
Bhansa keeps track of what’s in your kitchen, what you paid for it and what’s about to expire, so more of it ends up as dinner and less of it ends up in the trash.

Money you saved
See what you’ve saved.
My Kitchen shows what you’ve cooked, your streak, and how much food (and money) you’ve kept from going to waste.
It counts food that was close to or past its expiry date when you cooked it, used it up or froze it, priced from your receipts or a local estimate when there’s no receipt. It’s an estimate of what that rescued food was worth, and anything you throw away is tracked separately.

More Mira when you need it
Daily Mira credits come back at midnight. Premium's 150 monthly credits come back at the start of each month and pay for new AI work, like imports, scans and extra Mira help. On Premium, recipe ideas from the collection have no daily cap; asking for a brand-new recipe uses credits. If you run out, your saved recipes, pantry, lists and planning keep working within their usual limits.
Need more? Where available, signed-in Free and Premium users can buy 25 or 100 extra Mira credits that never expire. Your store shows the price before you pay. Packs pay for extra Mira chats, and for actions past the daily limit. They don't unlock Premium, and they don't pay for imports, meal plans or swaps, which are counted separately. Cooking streaks can earn you bonus credits too; the app shows when those expire.
FAQ
Questions people ask
A chat assistant can suggest a meal from whatever you tell it. Bhansa works from a pantry it keeps up to date: receipt and barcode scans add what you bought, and cooking takes out what you used. Your meal plan and shopping list start from what you already have, planned leftovers mean nothing is bought twice, and when you eat, the meal is one tap from your food log. Mira, Bhansa’s assistant, works from that same pantry.
Yes. When you finish cooking, or mark a planned meal as cooked, Bhansa takes the ingredients you used out of your pantry, scaled to the servings you made. Just scheduling a meal doesn’t change anything. If an ingredient is optional, or Bhansa can’t confidently match or convert the amount, it leaves that one for you to check.
When Bhansa plans your week, it can make one dinner a batch cook and set servings aside for a leftovers meal later in the week. Leftovers meals don’t add anything to your shopping list or take ingredients out a second time. If you make extra without planning it, save the extra servings to your pantry as leftovers, with an expiry date you can change.
No. Cooking and eating are different things. Meals you cook from your plan show up in that day’s food log with an Add button, so logging takes one tap, but you decide when and how much.
Yes. Tap Undo Cooked on your plan, or restore the receipt from Recent Deductions in your pantry. The exact amounts that were taken out go back in.
Yes, and it isn’t a trial. The free plan includes your pantry and shopping lists, food logging, savings tracking, 5 recipe ideas a day, 4 meal plans a week, 15 receipt scans and 30 fridge scans a month, 7 recipe imports a week, Mira with 5 daily credits, and Nest for 2 people. Premium raises the limits, adds collection search and gives you more Mira credits.
It’s an estimate of the food you rescued, not money back in your account. When you cook with, use up or freeze something that was close to or past its expiry date, Bhansa counts what that food was worth: the price on your receipt if you scanned one, or a regional estimate if not. Food you use well before it expires isn’t counted, and anything you throw away is tracked separately. My Kitchen shows the monthly and all-time totals, and roughly how many takeout meals that adds up to.
iPhone (from the App Store) and Android (from Google Play).
Take a photo of your fridge, counter or pantry shelf. Bhansa picks out the ingredients and suggests real recipes you can cook with them right now. The free plan includes 30 fridge photos a month.
Yes. Scan a receipt, check the items, and add them to your pantry with the prices you paid. Expiry dates are Bhansa’s best guess, and you can change them. Both plans include 15 receipt scans a month; on Premium, each extra scan costs 7 monthly credits.
Yes. Nest shares your shopping list, pantry and meal plans with everyone in the household, and keeps track of shared grocery costs. It’s free for 2 people, and Premium allows up to 6. You can also send a shopping list, recipe or collection to anyone with a link.
Yes. You can import from recipe websites (Guardian recipe articles included), social posts, screenshots or photos of cookbook pages. The free plan includes 7 imports a week. On Premium, an import costs 3 monthly credits when AI has to pull the recipe out; if the recipe is already in Bhansa’s shared import cache, it’s free. The source link and the creator’s credit stay with the recipe.
Yes. Send any recipe or collection, imported ones included, as a link, a code or a QR card. Anyone with the link can look at it and save their own copy. Imported recipes always keep the creator’s credit and a link back to the original, and creators can ask us to remove a recipe at support@bhansa.app.
Recipe nutrition uses USDA ingredient data where it’s available, scaled to your portion. Meals you log from a photo or a description are AI estimates, and you can edit them before saving. Barcode and label scans use the product label. Each number carries a small badge that tells you which it is: USDA verified, partial USDA data, AI estimate, barcode, label or manual entry.
Premium is US$29.99 a year. Some new subscribers will see a US$19.99 first-year welcome offer during onboarding, which then renews at US$29.99 a year. There’s no monthly plan and no free trial. Your app store shows your local price, and whether you qualify for the offer, before you pay. You can cancel renewal any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.
Yes. On the Home screen you can type or talk to Mira for dinner ideas, to log a meal, or to update your pantry and shopping list. Free includes 5 Mira credits and 5 actions a day. Premium includes 20 credits and 25 actions a day, plus 150 monthly credits. Asking Mira questions while you cook, and searching the recipe collection, are Premium only. Simple list, pantry and navigation commands that don’t need AI don’t use a credit, though they still count toward your daily actions.
Daily credits come back at midnight, and Premium monthly credits at the start of each month. In the meantime your pantry, lists, saved recipes and planning keep working within their usual limits, and Premium collection search doesn’t use credits. Cooking streaks can also earn you bonus credits. Where available, signed-in users on either plan can buy a 25- or 100-credit Mira pack that never expires. Packs pay for extra Mira chats and for actions past the daily limit. They don’t unlock Premium features, and they don’t pay for imports, meal plans or swaps, which are counted separately.
The 150 monthly credits pay for new AI work: freshly generated recipes, imports, scans, prep guides, and extra Mira help once your daily allowance and any bonus credits are used up. Results from the collection, and eligible cached results, are free. Swaps and pairings are capped at 60 requests each a day; a fresh result costs 1 credit and a cached one is free. Monthly credits don’t roll over, but Mira credits you buy never expire.
Yes. The app asks before it sends anything to its AI providers. If you tap Allow, that choice is remembered on the device, including for any new or guest accounts on it. You can turn AI off any time in Settings, under Privacy & Data, and your pantry, lists, planning and saved recipes keep working. That’s also where you can export your data or delete your account. The Privacy Policy has the full details.
With Premium, you can download recipes and cook from them offline. Mira, new scans, imports and household syncing need a connection.
